Green Sky Renewables recently delivered another successful solar PV project for Jigsaw Housing Association, working in close partnership with our sister company DLP Services and roofing manufacturers Wienerberger and Sandtoft. This project focused on delivering energy-saving solutions across a mixed estate of bungalows and hipped-roof houses, demonstrating how we adapt to site-specific challenges while maintaining high-quality outcomes.
DLP Services led the re-roofing programme, enabling a seamless integration of in-roof solar systems installed by Green Sky Renewables. This initiative is part of Jigsaw’s wider commitment to tackling fuel poverty and improving energy performance across its housing stock.
As with previous collaborations, the project began with DLP Services stripping and re-roofing each property using Sandtoft’s integrated roofing system. Green Sky Renewables then installed in-roof solar PV arrays connected to Solax inverters. The user-friendly monitoring app gives tenants visibility over their system’s output and personal energy usage.
While the bungalows allowed for straightforward installs, properties with hipped roofs required tailored system designs. In these cases, we split the arrays across available roof planes to ensure optimal generation without compromising the aesthetic. All systems were installed to MCS standards, boosting EPC ratings and future-proofing the homes for regulatory compliance.
Thanks to the Sandtoft system’s compatibility with the new roofing materials, installations were clean and well-integrated. Whether on a single-slope bungalow or a multi-slope hipped roof, each solar array was carefully designed to maximise solar gain while complementing the roof structure.
All residents now benefit from a reliable source of renewable electricity, with the added opportunity to export surplus energy under the Smart Export Guarantee. In practical terms, this means lower bills, improved household efficiency, and a meaningful step away from reliance on grid energy—especially crucial during a time of rising living costs.
